The Guitar Guy Robert Markowitz
(Yes,
this is written in the third person. Yes, I wrote it.)
Robert Markowitz currently owns Moving To The Beat at 300 Danbury Road, Suite 410 in Wilton, CT. Moving To The Beat offers children's birthday parties and children's classes. He also continues to perform as Robert The Guitar Guy.
Robert Markowitz, better known as Robert The Guitar Guy,
is an experienced Westchester children’s performer. He has performed shows for many public school districts and
recreation departments in Westchester County, NY. Robert has also performed at most of Westchester’s public
libraries. His work in Connecticut
includes performing at over 50 Connecticut libraries. In addition to his school-aged performances, Robert appears
at many pre-schools on a regular basis. During
an on-going performing contract in the Port Chester School District, he has
developed a series of musical
stories for elementary school students which teach trust, courage, and
gentleness.
Robert’s elementary school auditorium shows are
designed to teach trust, courage, and gentleness.
While set in a “long, long ago” world, they address the daily
problems and challenges of elementary school students.
Robert’s superb guitar work and interactive style punctuate the
messages of these stories. Students
are invited on stage to play roles. The
lessons unfold in an unaffected, spontaneous way.
Robert says:
“I was
trained as a lawyer and practiced as a criminal attorney for about five years.
I always kept teaching in my life, however, first as a LSAT teacher for
Stanley Kaplan (later designing my own course) and as a paralegal instructor at
the California State University, Hayward. Since 1995, I’ve been teaching and
performing for young children. Since
that time I’ve been trained in Dalcroze Eurhythmics at Hoff-Barthelson Music
School and I’ve graduated the introductory and advanced trainings at Center
For Music and Young Children. I’ve
performed at literally hundreds of libraries and many, many pre-schools,
elementary schools, recreational departments and camps.
“The heart of what I do as a performer and musician is to encourage a child’s innate playfulness. Language and moral education, musicianship, togetherness, wonder, are also goals. In addition, there are focus, concentration, and comprehension benefits.”
"Robert's songs and stories address the daily
concerns and tribulations of young students. He is right in tune with their
stage of development. He serves as
a good role model by treating all children with sensitivity and
compassion." Anne Duckett, Teacher
Port Chester School District, NY
"Through the creative use of puppetry and
storytelling, Robert teaches children about values and interpersonal
relationships. Children leave Robert's musical sessions with newfound self
esteem."
Cindy Casterella, Teacher
Port Chester School District, NY
“Every student is engaged as Robert plays his music
and tells his stories with an air of mystery and wisdom. His storytelling stimulates our children to learn.
They seem both relaxed and motivated in his presence.” Alexandra Terry, Teacher
